Attendance
Attendance Policy
Tardiness
Students
are expected to be present at the beginning of each class meeting.
It is your responsibility to inform the Attendance Office after
class if you arrive after attendance is recorded. Cases of excessive
tardiness may be referred to the Dean of Academic Affairs for
disciplinary action. If a student is tardy and therefore misses
the swipe timeframe, the student can pick up a Revision Sheet
from the Attendance Center.
Make-up
Policy
Students
are responsible for all work missed during any absence and it
is their responsibility to contact the appropriate faculty member(s)
concerning possible make-up work. It is at the professor's discretion
to allow or disallow any make-up work. Refer to the course syllabus
for your instructor's policy on make-up work.
Suspension
Standard
Student
A student
may be suspended from all classes if they are absent for 5 consecutive
class meetings of one course, 14 consecutive calendar days,
or 80% of their courses in one week. A student may also be suspended
by an instructor if absent for more than 30% of the class meetings.
Any student not attending the next term's session, must report
their intentions to the Academic Office in writing.
Accelerated
Student
A student
may be suspended for missing 1 course period and/or 8 calendar
days. Any student not intending to attend the next accelerated
session (term) must report their intention, in writing, to the
Academics office. Students are responsible for withdrawing from
individual courses through the Registrar's office.
Documented
Absence
Students
who must be absent from class due to circumstances beyond their
control may request a documented absence. Although a documented
absence is filed, the student MUST still maintain class work
requirements in a timely manner based on instructor's policy.
A documented absence may prevent a student from being dismissed.
If a student does not adhere to the documented absence agreement,
dismissal may result.
Appeals
If you wish
to appeal an attendance suspension or dismissal, appeal forms
are available in Student Central. Suspensions are submitted
to the Financial Aid Office once the suspension period is over
and dismissal occurs. This appeal must include documentation
of a valid reason for the absence, (for example, a doctors
report of serious illness, death in the family, or other pertinent
information). If the resulting decision of the appeal is disapproval,
you may make a written appeal to the Dean of Academic Affairs.
Denied appeals will result in dismissal. While the Attendance
suspension/dismissal appeal is being processed, you may attend
classes and take examinations.
